President Donald Trump has expressed hope for a ceasefire in Gaza “sometime next week.”
During a press conference at the Oval Office on Friday, he described the situation there as “horrifying” but remained optimistic about the potential for peace between Israel and Hamas.
“I think it’s close. I just spoke to some individuals involved,” Trump remarked.
He also addressed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, mentioning that “we’re supplying the area with a lot of money and food, because we must.”
Additionally, he urged other nations to contribute humanitarian aid to Gaza.
“You just have to look at the lines of people waiting for a single meal. It’s really unfortunate that other countries aren’t stepping up,” he noted.
“No one is assisting us with this, and I believe we need to be humane in our approach,” he added.
Trump described seeing crowds of people without food, emphasizing, “We are the ones getting it there. It’s frustrating when you know they have to resort to stealing food just to survive.”
He mentioned that they are actively working on the Gaza situation, asserting that substantial food supplies have been sent, and he reminded that support from other countries is essential.
This statement follows Trump’s approval of a U.S. strike on three Iranian nuclear sites and his subsequent announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, which he termed the “12-Day War.”
He also touched on other topics, such as providing Ukraine with Patriot missiles for air defense, expressing that they would “approve” this initiative.
