Trump Addresses High Gas Prices Amid Iran Tensions
On Tuesday, President Trump remarked that the soaring gas prices affecting Americans are merely “peanuts” in light of his administration’s priority: preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
As the average gasoline price reached $4.533 per gallon, Trump urged citizens to bear the burden of high fuel costs “for a while,” while his team continues to address Iran’s nuclear ambitions. “We can’t let them have nuclear weapons,” he conveyed to reporters gathered outside the White House.
“Do you want to see the world explode?” he asked rhetorically, emphasizing that the current situation is minor compared to the larger threat posed by Iran. He thanked people for their patience, saying it won’t last long.
Gas prices have remained persistently high, particularly since Iran limited traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial passage for about 20% of the world’s oil supply. Since the onset of conflict on February 28, gasoline costs have surged by 50%.
Trump acknowledged he anticipated that a war with Iran would bring significant economic repercussions, but he argued that the alternative is worse. “I thought the market might decline by 25%, but that was an acceptable trade-off to avert a nuclear catastrophe,” he stated. He firmly reiterated, “Iran cannot have nuclear weapons, and Iran will not have nuclear weapons.”
These statements come amid stalled peace negotiations between the United States and Iran, with Trump warning Tehran to engage seriously in diplomacy or risk further conflict. “We might need to deliver another major blow. We’ll find out soon enough,” he told the press, hinting at a potential imminent military response.
