New Jersey Man Files Lawsuit Against Tesla After Losing His Whole Family in Electric Vehicle Accident

New Jersey Family Sues Tesla After Tragic Crash

A New Jersey man has initiated legal action against Tesla, claiming that design flaws in the electric vehicle contributed to a fatal accident that resulted in the loss of his family members.

Max Dryman, a 19-year-old from New Jersey, is seeking compensation from Tesla following a heartbreaking incident on September 14, 2024, when his 54-year-old parents and 17-year-old sister were killed. The family was riding in a 2024 Tesla Model S at Garden State Park in Woodbridge when the car veered off the road, colliding with guardrails and concrete supports.

The lawsuit, filed last week in Camden federal court, argues that Tesla’s “flawed and unjustly dangerous design” led to the collision. The vehicle was equipped with several advanced safety features, such as forward collision warnings and lane departure avoidance systems, which are designed to prevent incidents like this one.

Interestingly, the lawsuit also calls out a statement from Tesla CEO Elon Musk in 2016, where he claimed that the company’s autopilot was “probably better” than human drivers. Dryman contends that this statement misrepresented his father, who was driving at the time of the accident.

Even though all three passengers were wearing seat belts, they suffered severe, fatal injuries. The lawsuit claims that Tesla’s design shortcomings inhibited effective lane maintenance and braking, culminating in this tragic outcome.

As of now, Tesla has not provided any comments to media inquiries related to this lawsuit.

There have been other lawsuits connected to Tesla accidents as well, with allegations surrounding the safety of autopilot and full self-driving features.

One such case involved Jovani Maldonado and his father, who faced a similar situation while traveling back from a teenage soccer tournament in August 2019. Their vehicle was struck from behind by a Tesla Model 3 on Interstate 880, resulting in a rollover. Tragically, Jovani, seated in the passenger side, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained injuries.
