Escapes from Orleans Parish Prison: One Fugitive Remains at Large

Authorities are still on the lookout for the last remaining fugitive from the Orleans Parish Prison escape, following the arrest of Antoine Massey on Friday. Massey was among ten prisoners who fled from the Orleans Justice Center on May 16.

Currently, Derrick Groves, a convicted murderer, is the only escapee still at large. In a statement on X, Governor Jeff Landry remarked, “This is the final countdown.”

Massey’s arrest took place at a residence in New Orleans, according to the Louisiana State Police’s press release. At the time of his escape, Massey was incarcerated for several charges, including domestic abuse, strangulation, car theft, and parole violations.

Interestingly, before his capture, Massey appeared to send a plea for help through a video on Instagram, asking for assistance from celebrities like Donald Trump and local artists. “I couldn’t even get a lawyer,” he stated in the video, expressing his frustration over his situation.

Since the July escape, a dozen individuals have reportedly been arrested for allegedly aiding the escapees. The Orleans Justice Center was operating at only 60% staffing capacity when the incident occurred, with four supervisors amid 1,400 inmates.

A reward of $50,000 is being offered for any information leading to Groves’ capture, as the search continues.
