ICE criticizes CNN for exaggerating a new app designed to identify federal agents

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has criticized CNN for its favorable coverage of a new app. This app allows users to share media regarding immigration matters, potentially sending alerts to those in the vicinity about ICE operations.

This development coincides with a notable rise in violence against federal agents, particularly following unrest related to ICE in Los Angeles. The app’s creator asserts that its purpose isn’t to disrupt operations but rather to inform undocumented immigrants about specific areas to steer clear of.

One ICE official lamented that CNN’s actions might endanger the lives of federal officers, stating, “CNN knowingly puts the lives of officers who risk their lives every day at risk, making it possible for dangerous criminal aliens.”

In an interview, the app founder expressed frustration over the situation in the country, linking current immigration issues to historical events, saying, “We’re literally watching history repeat itself.”

In response to media coverage, ICE’s acting director criticized CNN for promoting apps that could jeopardize federal agents’ safety. “I’m tired of promoting apps that basically draw targets on the backs of federal law enforcement officials,” he remarked, underscoring the 500% surge in attacks on officers amid public demonstrations against ICE.

ICE also noted that CNN failed to contact them for their perspective on the matter.

Before this app launched, certain left-leaning organizations utilized social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram to raise awareness about ICE activities, leading to confrontations with federal agents and increased tensions.

Amid this backdrop, former President Donald Trump has reiterated his commitment to continuing immigration enforcement in Southern California despite the growing opposition.
