Saquon Barkley criticizes Cowboys and Commanders for ignoring him in free agency

Saquon Barkley’s Unwanted Services in NFC East

It seems that Saquon Barkley’s services aren’t exactly in demand among the NFC East teams.

Reflecting on his experience during free agency back in March, after leaving the Giants for their rivals, the Eagles, the recent Super Bowl champion mentioned that no division rivals showed interest in him.

“I’ve never heard anything from Washington or Dallas,” Barkley shared with Twitch Streamer Janky Rondo at his teammate Devonta Smith’s charity softball event.

That’s quite something, right?

Barkley, who was the second overall pick by the Giants in 2018, became a key player for the team, often carrying the weight of difficult offensive situations during his six seasons in New York.

Despite aiming to be a driving force in the league, he ultimately signed a three-year, $3.775 million contract with the Eagles in March 2024.

While the Giants faced a disappointing 3-14 season, Barkley found success in Philadelphia.

In his debut season with the Eagles, he rushed for 2,005 yards, earning All-Pro First Team honors and appearing on the cover of Madden 26.

Interestingly, the Dallas Cowboys, owned by Jerry Jones, did not pursue him in free agency.

Neither did the Washington commanders, who had recently appointed Dan Quinn as their head coach.

Though the Eagles offered him a substantial two-year, $41.2 million contract, it seems Washington didn’t make a play for Barkley, particularly after their NFC Championship Game loss to Philadelphia.

As for Dallas, with Tony Pollard’s departure from Tennessee, they were listening, yet didn’t go after Derrick Henry.

Barkley had quite the performance against the Cowboys last season, rushing for a total of 233 yards in two games and securing four touchdowns against Washington.

This year’s season opener for the Eagles is set for September 4th, and it’s against the Cowboys on “Thursday Night Football.”
