New Poll Reveals Decline in American Pride Among Democrats
A recent poll indicates that fewer Democrats express strong pride in being American than at any time in the past quarter-century. Only 36% reported being “very proud” of their country, a significant drop from 62% in 2024, according to a Gallup survey released this Monday.
The survey shows that overall American pride has reached a record low of 58%, with a notable contribution from the decline among Democrats. This decline marks the second occurrence of Democrat pride falling below the majority, previously noted at 42% in 2020 during the concluding year of Donald Trump’s presidency.
Interestingly, Democratic pride was at its lowest since 2020, when it was reported at 42%. After Joe Biden assumed office, this figure rose to 62%, consistently remaining above 50% during his administration. Comparatively, under Barack Obama, pride among Democrats surpassed 80%.
Gallup’s data suggests that Republican pride doesn’t strongly correlate with electoral success. While 85% of Republicans reported feeling “very proud” to be American in 2024, their pride has consistently hovered around 80-90% throughout Biden’s term. In stark contrast, pride among Democrats saw a decline following Trump’s presidency.
Independents also saw their pride dip to a new low of 53%, down from 64% in 2024. Since Gallup began tracking this sentiment in 2001, Republican pride has remained relatively stable.
The survey further highlights generational differences, revealing that younger Americans tend to express less pride in their country. Only 41% of Generation Z members indicated they are “very proud” to be American. This stands in stark contrast to 58% of millennials, 71% of Gen X, and 75% of baby boomers who reported strong national pride.
Additionally, Gallup mentioned that Trump’s decisive actions, such as the military strike on Iran’s nuclear site, were generally approved by most voters, as reported by Axios.
