Kayla Lochte, the spouse of Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte, recently took to social media to express feelings of “betrayal,” just weeks after their divorce announcement.
On a Friday, Reed shared a “Reminder” slideshow where she reflected on her personal journey during the divorce, indicating that her statements were self-focused.
One slide declared, “You are stepping into the best chapters of your life. You need to heal first.” Another suggested that sometimes betrayal leads to breakthroughs, adding, “Most people don’t know what I endured. They ignore their opinions. The truth always reveals itself.” She concluded with a strong sentiment: “Divorce is not the end of my story. It is the beginning of my rebirth.”
This revelation follows the couple’s announcement earlier in the month regarding their split after seven years of marriage. According to reports, Reed had filed for divorce after much contemplation and prayer.
She expressed the gravity of the situation, stating, “I respect marriage at its peak, so this was one of the most painful, obviously challenging seasons of my life. I hesitated to share until I could do so from a place of healing, not from a fresh, open wound.”
Reed mentioned facing trials that one doesn’t choose, leading to tough decisions aimed at securing peace for her family. She has come to understand that these choices, while difficult, can also be loving.
In an Instagram post, Lochte acknowledged Reed’s sentiments and shared, “It wasn’t easy.” He admitted that the previous year had significantly impacted both of them, culminating in their difficult choice to end the marriage.
Lochte noted that this decision was challenging but felt it was a move toward peace for both. He expressed gratitude for continued support and stressed the importance of working together through healing and respect.
The couple, engaged in 2016, faced public scrutiny related to an incident during the Rio Olympics, which saw Lochte lose sponsorships and receive a suspension from competitive swimming.
While Lochte celebrated his sixth gold medal in Rio as part of the 4×200-meter freestyle team, Reed was recognized as Playboy’s Playmate in July 2015.
