Trump administration files lawsuit against Los Angeles over unlawful sanctuary city immigration policies

Trump Administration Sues Los Angeles Over Immigration Policies

On Monday, the Trump administration initiated a lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles, asserting that federal officials are hampering immigration law enforcement. The administration aims to challenge the policies implemented by the sanctuary city.

“The Sanctuary City Laws in Los Angeles are illegal. These laws and policies are designed to obstruct federal enforcement of federal immigration laws in violation of the supreme provisions of the US Constitution, and are actually obstructing and discriminating. The city of Los Angeles’ challenged laws and policies will obstruct federal immigration law enforcement and hinder consultation and communications between federal, state, and local law enforcement officials,” reads the lawsuit.

Attorney General Pam Bondy emphasized the problem, saying, “The Sanctuary policy was the cause of the driving forces of violence, confusion, and attacks against law enforcement that Americans have recently witnessed in Los Angeles. Jurisdictions like Los Angeles, which disregard federal law by prioritizing illegal foreigners over American citizens, undermine law enforcement at all levels – that ends under President Trump.”

This marks the fourth legal action taken by the GOP administration against Blue states’ sanctuary policies, resembling previous lawsuits filed in Chicago, Illinois, Colorado, and New Jersey.

The lawsuit highlights the 2024 election and President Trump’s pledge to deport illegal aliens, asserting that the country continues to face a significant challenge with illegal immigration.

Legal matters in Los Angeles have intensified following a series of large-scale ICE immigration operations that have triggered protests and confrontations with law enforcement.

On the opposing side, Los Angeles Democratic Mayor Karen Bass criticized the Trump administration’s approach, claiming it has worsened tensions in the city. She pointed out that the president failed to keep his promise of targeting “the worst of the worst.”

“Why was the attack?” Bass questioned in a recent media appearance. “We were told he was going to chase violent criminals. It wasn’t a drug nest. It was Home Depot.”

In early June, the Department of Homeland Security reported over 239 arrests in the LA area, focusing on individuals deemed “criminal foreigners” during a special operation.
