eBay Sales Surge from Long Island Serial Murder Case

There’s been quite a buzz around the Long Island serial murder case, with memorabilia sellers making a profit from items linked to defendant Rex Heuermann. From a military Jeep once owned by Heuermann to various newspaper covers about the case, it’s all up for grabs.

The 1972 Vietnam-era Jeep has fetched over $4,300 so far, while a 1977 yearbook from McKenna Middle School is listed for $995. Surprisingly, a cover from the New York Post dated January 17, 2024, is available for just $11.33.

“This is a significant event,” notes David Adamovich, a collector who isn’t part of the online selling frenzy. He mentioned this to Newsday, adding that items like Jeeps are especially intriguing to collectors on Long Island.

Heuermann, 61, faces serious charges for the murders of seven sex workers over the past three decades. Their bodies have been discovered along the desolate areas of Long Island.

The case remained a mystery until authorities arrested Heuermann in 2023 for the deaths of Amberlin Costello, Megan Waterman, and Melissa Barthelemy. Later in January 2024, he was charged with the murder of Maureen Brainard Burns, leading to the nickname “Gilgo Four” for these four women.

Prosecutors in Suffolk County have since charged Heuermann with three additional murders, involving victims Valerie Mack, Jessica Taylor, and Sandra Costilla, with the first killings dating back to 1993.

Heuermann has pleaded not guilty to all allegations against him.

The chilling case has drawn national attention and inspired a new three-part series on NBC/Peacock. This program features the first interview with Heuermann’s wife, Asa Ellerup, and their daughter, Victoria Hairman.

Ellerup has expressed her continued belief in her husband amidst the controversy surrounding the case.

In fact, memorabilia related to this case is proving quite lucrative on eBay.

As someone with over 20 years of experience in the “murderabilia” industry, Adamovich remarked that the market typically spikes when a serial killer is charged.

Today, items like magazine covers, maps of relevant areas, and various books about the case continue to attract interest.

One ad lists the Jeep for $1,000, with bids still coming in. As of Tuesday afternoon, it had racked up 522,465 miles.

The ad highlights that this Jeep belonged to the Long Island serial killer and states that Heuermann and his family are featured in the new Peacock documentary titled “Gilgo Beach Killer – House of Secrets,” which aired on June 10, 2025.

The listing claims the Jeep is in good working condition, comes with both hard and soft tops, and includes all necessary registration paperwork for transfer.
