12-Year-Old Arrested for Theft of Multiple Vehicles in Michigan
On Friday, police in Michigan apprehended a 12-year-old boy who was allegedly involved in stealing several cars from a local business. According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect had reportedly taken three or four vehicles from the establishment over the past month, claiming to have sold at least one for around $30.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard commented, “This young man is on a very bad path and is trying to live his grand burglar’s car.” He expressed hope that court intervention would help redirect the boy toward a more positive future and put an end to the ongoing thefts affecting the business.
In a statement on social media, the sheriff’s office praised law enforcement for their proactive efforts, noting, “Our agent should be praised for his excellent work to stop a 12-year-old who was on the path of Grand Theft Auto. This behavior usually doesn’t end well. Thankfully, businesses don’t have to continue suffering from this criminal activity.”
The incidents took place in Pontiac, part of Oakland County, which is notable for being the second most populous county in Michigan. Additionally, this area is known for being the site of a tragic school shooting at Oxford High School in 2021.
Earlier this year, a 13-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly breaking into a home in Pontiac and threatening three victims with a knife, specifically targeting young girls.
As of 2023, Michigan recorded a crime rate of approximately 2,000 incidents per 100,000 residents, placing it in the top 30 states for crime rates.
Upon the arrest, the young suspect was reportedly found around numerous vehicles in a parking lot with license plates in his possession. He is currently being held at Children’s Village in Oakland County.
Police are still investigating the events surrounding the car thefts.
