Man from New York goes missing after departing from vacation rental in Turks and Caicos

Missing Man in Turks and Caicos

A 51-year-old man from Monroe, New York, has gone missing while vacationing in Turks and Caicos. Brian Tarence reportedly left the rental home on June 25th at around 3:30 a.m., as noted in a missing person flyer released by the Royal Turkish Islands Police.

Carl DeFazio, a private investigator for the family, shared that it seemed like everything was normal before Tarence stepped out. He mentioned how Tarence left from a safe spot on Grace Bay Road and was seen on camera walking into town, but then he just—well—disappeared without a trace.

Tarence had moved recently from Monroe to Manhattan and was there with his wife, having arrived on June 22nd. They were supposed to leave on June 29th.

According to DeFazio, the local police are using various resources, including drone technology and CCTV footage, in their search efforts. He described Grace Bay Road as “very safe,” which adds to the mystery of his disappearance.

“We haven’t had much luck yet, but we’re not losing hope,” DeFazio stated. He emphasized the importance of staying positive. He admitted that they are unsure if Tarence left voluntarily or if something more concerning occurred.

It’s worth noting that Tarence left behind his phone and wallet, wearing just a T-shirt, shorts, and sneakers when he went missing.

DeFazio mentioned that investigators are looking into Tarence’s phone activity, but it’s taking time. Just the day before he went missing, Tarence and his wife had enjoyed a boat trip together. Unbeknownst to her, he left while she was asleep, which adds another layer of confusion to the situation.

Despite the ongoing mystery, DeFazio expressed gratitude for the support from local businesses and fellow vacationers who have assisted in distributing missing person flyers throughout the area. While there’s currently no evidence pointing towards foul play, the lack of answers six days post-disappearance certainly raises concerns.

In such cases, DeFazio typically tries to find a pattern in the behavior of the missing person to understand their potential actions and familiarity with the surrounding area. His methods include tracking the last known movements through phone and smartwatch records.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding Brian Tarence’s disappearance to reach out, either by calling 911 or contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477.
