Whirlwind Romance Amidst Tornadoes

It’s a whirlwind romance—quite literally.

On a Sunday afternoon, amid what some called “absolutely incredible” weather, a couple of enthusiastic storm chasers got engaged while an EF-3 tornado swirled nearby.

Bryce Shelton proposed to Paige Beldam as they were pursuing a tornado in South Dakota, just as violent storms swept across the region. With the impressive tornado in the background, Shelton dropped to one knee, creating a moment both exhilarating and unforgettable.

Beldam later remarked that it was “the most beautiful tornado” she’d ever seen, as her face lit up with joy (even behind her safety goggles).

“It was absolutely incredible,” she shared. “We couldn’t have asked for better conditions.”

Photos posted online captured this whirlwind engagement against the dramatic backdrop of nature’s fury, further solidifying their unique love story.

In one of her social media posts, Beldam expressed her joy, saying, “How do you top this day on Earth? I experienced this with the love of my life in South Dakota.”

The tornado wasn’t merely a spectacle; it was the perfect setting for their love story.

The couple initially united over their shared passion for storm chasing. They began their journey as friends before transitioning into a romantic relationship. “Our chase styles are pretty similar, and I enjoy interacting with others on YouTube,” Beldam mentioned.

By the time Shelton proposed, they had been hunting tornadoes together for more than a year. He revealed that he had been planning the engagement for about five months, keeping the ring under wraps for three weeks, despite their constant time together.

He carried the ring, waiting for the right moment, which he found in the midst of tumultuous weather.

“I’ve been waiting 18 weeks for the perfect opportunity,” Shelton told a reporter. “South Dakota is our favorite place for storms, so we wanted to make it special in front of a stunning tornado.”

After the proposal, they had a photoshoot with their friend Brandon Kopic, another storm chaser who helped capture better memories of the day.
