Border Security and Immigration Trends: A Comparison
President Donald Trump is currently managing significant figures at the US-Mexico border, though these figures don’t quite match the record set under former President Joe Biden.
Biden’s administration has seen an unprecedented influx of illegal immigrants—more than ever recorded in American history. In contrast, Trump’s strict immigration policies seem to have contributed to an increase in border crossings and the continuation of longstanding catch-and-release practices.
Perhaps the most significant point is that the number of illegal aliens who evaded capture, often referred to as “Got Aways,” decreased dramatically by 90% in June compared to the same month the previous year when Biden took office. During Biden’s tenure, about 2 million individuals have reportedly entered the United States in merely four years.
This particular group is noteworthy because it often consists of individuals with criminal backgrounds who try to evade detection by the US Border Patrol, fearing swift deportation, as experts suggest.
A high-profile case of such illegal alien fugitives involved the tragic murder of Rachel Morin in Harford County, Maryland, in recent years. In August 2023, while jogging, Morin was attacked by Victor Antonio Martinez Hernandez, an illegal immigrant associated with the MS-13 gang. This violent incident, prosecutors and law enforcement have deemed one of the most horrendous in Harford County’s history.
Martinez Hernandez had been apprehended by Border Patrol agents on three occasions in 2023, specifically in January and February in New Mexico and Texas. Each time, he was returned to Mexico.
However, after his last return, he re-entered California, where he reportedly assaulted a woman and her child. He subsequently made his way to Maryland, where he raped and murdered Morin.
Prior to crossing the border, Martinez Hernandez was linked to a murder in El Salvador. After leaving a bar, authorities found the body of a woman he had allegedly killed days later.
Martinez Hernandez was among the millions of illegal immigrants who crossed the border without detection while Biden was in office.
