Joe Logan described the Trump administration’s focus on workplace immigration enforcement as “unusual,” asserting that the federal government should target “cartel members,” “gang members,” and “drug dealers” instead.
In a recent episode of his popular podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan expressed his disagreement with the administration’s detention of green card holders and graduate students critical of Israel.
Logan mentioned the reversal of a brief mid-June pause on enforcement actions in sectors like agriculture and hospitality, suggesting this marks a renewed crackdown on undocumented workers.
He described the targeted actions against migrant workers as “crazy,” especially since the focus seems primarily on those in construction and gardening, rather than actual criminals.
During his discussion with tech entrepreneur Amjad Massad, Logan commented on the recent enforcement activities, saying that it seems odd that migrant workers are the target instead of actual threats.
Massad agreed, pointing out that despite some positive aspects of the new administration, the current approach has been disappointing.
Logan highlighted concerning enforcement on university campuses against students who express anti-Israel sentiments, citing a viral video of a Turkish student at Tufts University being confronted by an immigration agent.
This student, Rumeysa Öztürk, was briefly detained after the Department of Homeland Security claimed she was in violation of immigration laws, a claim that ultimately proved unfounded, leading to her release.
Logan also mentioned Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian graduate student arrested under questionable circumstances after the administration used dubious claims regarding his green card application as justification for his deportation.
Khalil spent over 100 days in detention before being released, amidst criticisms of the administration’s broader treatment of students advocating for Palestinian rights.
Logan, who has an audience of around 10 million, recently demonstrated a more supportive stance toward Trump, calling the President’s approach “the most persuasive argument.” This marks a notable shift for someone who previously criticized Trump, potentially appealing to younger male voters.
Last month, Logan advocated for a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, acknowledging that while they may have crossed borders unlawfully, many are hardworking individuals who deserve a chance.
Requests for comment from ICE, DHS, and the White House remain outstanding.
