Tragedy Strikes Texas with Flooding

At least 27 people have lost their lives, and 27 young girls from a Christian summer camp are reported missing following severe flooding in Texas.

During a press conference Saturday, Mayor Dalton Rice noted that the figures regarding missing individuals could fluctuate throughout the day.

“The 27 missing are children from Camp Mystic. We’re not sure about the total number of other missing persons yet,” he mentioned. “We don’t want to make any assumptions at this point.”

Some children have been rescued and reunited with their families, but the search for others continues.

The rescued children have been returned to their Texas families, yet the heartache remains with over 20 children still unaccounted for after the catastrophic floods.

Carr County Sheriff Larry Reisa confirmed that fatalities include 18 adults and nine children.

“We’re diligently searching for those who are missing, ensuring their safety,” Reisa stated.

So far, around 850 individuals have been rescued.

On social media, President Trump mentioned that his administration is collaborating with Texas officials in response to the flooding emergency.

“Our Homeland Security Secretary Christy Noem will arrive soon,” he expressed. “Melania and I are praying for the families affected by this tragedy. Our first responders are doing their utmost,” he added.

Officials indicated that the floods came as a surprise, with the river rising 26 feet within just 45 minutes. Some areas of central Texas experienced a month’s worth of rain in a few hours. For instance, the community of Hunt saw nearly 6.5 inches fall in just three hours on Friday.

Photos from the scene depict extensive damage to homes, vehicles, and trees, alongside ongoing rescue efforts.

Flash floods along the Guadalupe River have claimed 13 lives, with 23 young girls from Camp Mystic still reported missing. These children are daughters, sisters, and friends, and keeping them and their families in your thoughts is vital.

Warnings for flash floods persist across the area, and additional rain is predicted for Saturday and Sunday, as mentioned by Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick.
