Maine Paddleboarder Murder Investigation Seeks Public Help
Authorities are reaching out to the public for assistance after the recent murder of a paddleboarder in a local pond in Maine. The incident, which occurred last week, has prompted significant concern and investigation.
On July 3, game wardens in Maine were called in to aid the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and the local fire department. Their efforts led to the unsettling discovery of a woman’s body, escalating the need for the Major Crime Division of the Maine Police Department to investigate further.
Victim Identified
The victim has been identified as 48-year-old Sunshine Stewart, who was from a nearby town. An autopsy confirmed that she was murdered, but details surrounding the cause of death have not yet been released.
Crawford Pond, the location of the incident, is known for its fishing opportunities, reaching depths of up to 57 feet.
Request for Information
Officials are urging anyone with information on Stewart’s death to get in touch with the Maine Police Department by calling (207)-624-7076. Neither the Maine State Police nor the Knox County Sheriff’s Department have commented further on this matter.
This alarming event comes amidst a series of unexplained fatalities within the region, raising fears that a serial killer might be active in New England.
Wider Concerns
Just last month, another troubling incident was reported when the body of a 21-year-old Boston woman, Adriana Suzo, was discovered in a forest in Milton, Massachusetts. Similar to Stewart’s case, there were no visible signs of trauma, and the investigation into her death is ongoing.
In total, authorities have found at least 13 bodies across Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Maine since March 2025. Even so, law enforcement agencies are hesitant to attribute these deaths to a serial killer.
Maine State Police emphasized the importance of public awareness, encouraging residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity. They indicated that more information will be released as the investigation progresses.
