Charlamagne Tha God on GOP’s New Bill
Radio host Charlamagne Tha God voiced concerns on Tuesday about the unpopularity of the GOP’s new “Big, Beautiful Bill.” He believes that President Trump and the Republicans are pushing it because they see it as crucial for upcoming elections.
The bill, signed by Trump on July 4th, tightens tax cuts from his 2017 legislation and eliminates taxes on tips and overtime pay. An analysis from the Congressional Budget Office suggests it could add around $4.4 trillion in costs over the next ten years by making certain tax rates permanent. Additionally, it allocates billions for border security and enforces stricter immigration policies that have drawn criticism.
During an episode of “The Breakfast Club,” Charlamagne remarked that the bill has faced criticism from both political parties due to its potential to increase national debt and reduce access to Medicaid.
Political Repercussions of the New Bill
He highlighted that the bill could lead to cuts in Medicaid and food assistance for up to 17 million Americans. There’s alarm, he noted, with both Republicans and Democrats labeling it as “political suicide,” suggesting that it could cost the GOP many seats in the mid-term elections.
He speculated that perhaps Trump and the GOP have some sort of electoral advantage they’re banking on, asking, “If they aren’t worried, what does that say?” He hinted that the outcome for the mid-term elections and beyond might already be predetermined.
Charlamagne offered a rather bleak view, suggesting that such drastic measures in the bill could indicate a troubling outlook for democratic processes. “I wonder about the state of free and fair elections,” he concluded. “Only time will tell.”
