U.S. Attorney Vows to Indict Attacks on ICE Agents
The interim U.S. Attorney for California’s Central District, Bill Essaylie, announced on Wednesday that anyone who assaults Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will be indicted.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, a Democrat, has called for ICE agents to vacate her city, a demand that echoes previous appeals from other Democratic officials following disturbances that occurred after an ICE operation in June. Essaylie remarked on “Fox and Friends” that Bass should have addressed these laws during her tenure in Congress.
“Let’s clarify what’s happening here,” Essaylie explained. “Politicians in California are openly antagonistic toward the federal government. We’re here enforcing federal immigration laws as mandated by Congress. If Karen Bass was unhappy with the law, she should have changed it back when she was in Congress.”
He added, “Instead, she sends the message that it’s acceptable to oppose and even attack federal agents. This is why we have a military presence; it’s essential for protecting our agents. We will not be intimidated by Ms. Bass, and we will continue our mission.”
Since last Friday, there have been assaults on a Border Patrol facility in McAllen, Texas, and ICE offices in Alvarado, Texas.
“We witnessed shootings involving our officers, leading to the arrest of ten individuals charged federally. Their tactics are becoming more aggressive, which is concerning. If anyone obstructs our agents or harms them, they will face arrest, charges, and federal prison time. That’s a guarantee,” Essaylie stated.
