Former UFC fighter Randy Couture was airlifted to a burn center on Tuesday after a serious accident at a racetrack. Reports indicate he suffered first and second degree burns, trauma, and smoke inhalation following a collision. This incident occurred just before Couture was set to participate in his first National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) race.
Details about the cause of the crash remain unclear, but it seems Couture’s vehicle was heavily damaged. As of Wednesday, he was still receiving care at the burn center, though his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Recently, Couture expressed his excitement about racing, noting it was a whole different experience than what many might think. “Sitting in the stands, it looks easy,” he mentioned, “but there’s a lot more that goes into it.” He referred to the racing scene as a new way to channel his competitive spirit, suggesting that he was eager to apply his experience as a wrestler and martial artist to this new challenge.
Couture has an impressive MMA career with a record of 19-11, securing titles in both the light and heavyweight divisions of the UFC before retiring in 2011.
