Local pediatrician addresses the backlash following her post about flood victims

A pediatrician recently faced backlash after saying the victims of the Texas floods deserved their fate due to their political beliefs, leading to her dismissal from her position.

Dr. Christina B. Propst expressed that she is taking “full responsibility” for her controversial statements, adding that she was unaware of the scale of the tragedy, which claimed over 100 lives, including many children.

In a statement, she mentioned, “As a mother, neighbor, and pediatrician, I regret my words.”

She acknowledged the pain her comments caused those grieving, adding, “I am truly sorry for that.”

Dr. Propst claimed her post was made before she knew anyone had died, but later admitted to the insensitivity and that the backlash was warranted. Her comments were made under her old Facebook username, Chris Tina.

In her now-deleted post, she wrote, “Make sure all visitors, children, non-Maga voters, and pets are safe and dry. Kerr County Magazine voted for the Intestinal FEMA.” She continued, “They deny climate change. May they get what they vote for. Bless their hearts.”

Her employer, Blue Fish Pediatrics, announced on Monday that she is “no longer employed,” following initial suspension.

The pediatric practice affirmed that they do not condone politicizing tragedy or diminishing human dignity. They emphasized their commitment to compassionate care for all families, regardless of differing beliefs.

In her apology, Propst insisted that her political views had never influenced her professional conduct. She said her harsh comments stemmed from a place of frustration regarding the need for better disaster preparedness.

The recent flood has left over 160 people missing and at least 118 confirmed dead, with the toll expected to rise.
