Social Security will issue average payments of $2,000 on Wednesday, July 16: learn who qualifies for a check.

In the United States, many older adults rely on Social Security retirement benefits, and if you’re among them, there’s good news: the next monthly payment is coming up soon.

On Wednesday, July 16th, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will issue checks as part of this month’s distribution schedule.

This includes payments for those receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and survivor benefits.

Who gets the Social Security check on Wednesday, July 16th?

Out of about 70 million individuals benefiting from US retirement, SSDI, or survivor payments, most receive their funds on one of three Wednesdays each month.

The scheduled Wednesdays for these payments depend on the beneficiary’s date of birth.

This means that on July 16th, the SSA will disperse payments to those whose birthdays fall between the 11th and 20th of the month. This marks the agency’s second payout for July; the first has already happened.

Wednesday Payment Schedule – July 2025:

  • Wednesday, July 9th: Recipients born between the 1st and 10th
  • Wednesday, July 16th: Recipients born between the 11th and 20th
  • Wednesday, July 23rd: Recipients born between the 21st and 31st

Who gets paid outside the usual Wednesday timeline?

  • Certain long-term Social Security recipients

If you began receiving your retirement, SSDI, or survivor benefits before May 1997, your payment will generally be issued on the third of each month, no matter when your birthday is.

So, for these long-term beneficiaries, the payment date for July is Thursday, the 3rd.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients—who are often seniors with low incomes or people with disabilities—receive their payments at the start of each month.

This means that the SSI checks for July were sent out last Tuesday.

  • Dual beneficiaries (SSI + Standard Social Security)

About 2.5 million Americans receive both SSDI or survivor benefits and SSI. These recipients will see their SSI payment come first, and then their regular Social Security check follows.

Other July Payment Dates for 2025

  • Tuesday, July 1st: SSI recipients
  • Thursday, July 3rd: Regular social security recipients since May 1997

For dual recipients: SSI was paid first, followed by regular Social Security on the third.
