Autotuned national anthem at Orioles game receives varied responses from fans

Baltimore Orioles Fans Experience Unique National Anthem Performance

Fans of the Baltimore Orioles had an unexpected experience during the “Star Spangled Banner” before their doubleheader against the New York Mets on Thursday night. Not everyone seemed to appreciate the autotuned rendition, though.

Dan Deacon, a local recording artist recognized for his innovative electronic music, kicked things off as the Orioles went on to win the first game 3-1 and the second 7-3.

“I think the Orioles officially hit rock bottom,” commented one user on X.

Deacon’s performance video amassed over 1.2 million views, leaving many fans in the stadium and at home a little puzzled. One viewer expressed, “I’m kind of switching between ‘What is this?’ and ‘I feel it.'” Another fan questioned, “What’s his claim to fame? He’s not exactly singing…”

Despite the mixed reactions, Deacon’s followers—over 47,000 on Instagram—seemed to dig his unique approach. “Dan sings the national anthem, and O sweeps the doubleheader against one of the best teams in the league. Coincidence? I don’t think so,” said one fan. Another chimed in, “This is 100% why the Orioles won the game.”

In terms of performance, Jordan Westberg shone by driving in a home run and adding three runs, while Alex Jackson contributed with two doubles and two runs in his Baltimore debut, bolstering the team’s fifth victory in six games. The Mets, meanwhile, fell further behind in the NL East, now trailing 1.5 games behind first-place Philadelphia.
