Glasshouse Farm President Donates to California Democrats Amid Federal Investigation
The leader of Glasshouse Farm, a cannabis farm in California, recently faced a federal immigration crackdown, despite protests. Graham Farrar, the farm’s co-founder and president, has made significant monetary donations to California Democrats, which raises some eyebrows amidst the ongoing situation.
Farrar, who identifies as a Santa Barbara resident on social media, has contributed to the Federal Political Action Committee of the Santa Barbara County Central Democratic Committee and to D-Caliph Rep. Sardo Carballard, according to records from the Federal Election Commission. He also gave $10,000 to Democrat Gavin Newsom in 2018 and most recently supported Greg Hart with a donation in July 2023.
Clashes Erupt at Cannabis Farm Over Federal Operations
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Rodney Scott announced an investigation into the farm for alleged child labor violations. The Department of Homeland Security informed Fox News that they rescued nine unaccompanied children illegally present in the U.S.
DHS Deputy Commissioner Tricia McLaughlin expressed satisfaction that law enforcement could protect these children. Glasshouse Brands issued a statement affirming compliance with the lawful federal warrant and noted that they are assisting detained workers in finding legal representation.
“Glass House has never intentionally violated employment practices. We do not employ minors and don’t anticipate this issue affecting our operations,” the company communicated via social media.
Protests and Federal Clashes Continue in Camarillo
Protesters confronted federal agents during an immigration operation in Camarillo on Thursday. Authorities reportedly had warrants for illegal employees. Another immigration raid also happened at a Glasshouse location in Carpinteria. Bill Essaylie, the U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a suspect who allegedly shot at a federal officer during the operation.
During the protests, military helicopters hovered over, likely to locate hidden individuals, as federal agents utilized tear gas on demonstrators. Local authorities criticized the aggressive tactics, with Oxnard Mayor Lewis McArthur stating, “These actions are causing unnecessary pain and harm.” He indicated a commitment to explore legal options to address these federal operations.
When asked about a video depicting gunfire aimed at federal officials, Governor Newsom condemned the violence. He emphasized California’s commitment to prosecuting child exploitation and trafficking and criticized federal tactics, describing them as aggressive and insensitive to community impacts.
Fox News reached out to Glass House and Governor Newsom for comments.
