Texas Man Arrested Over Threat to Trump
A Texas man was arrested following a Facebook post that allegedly threatened President Trump ahead of his visit to Carville.
Robert Herrera, a 52-year-old from San Antonio, faces charges for threatening the president and transmitting those threats across state lines. A statement from the US Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas confirmed the charges.
The concerning post originated from a local news outlet discussing Trump’s upcoming appearance in Hill Country, which came after a deadly flood during the July 4 holiday. Authorities have chosen not to disclose the names of the media involved.
According to the Department of Justice, Herrera commented under an image of Trump taken shortly after an assassination attempt on him in Pennsylvania in July 2024. Using the name “Robert Heller,” Herrera replied to another user’s comment by stating, “I’ll just come for you,” and included a photo of himself that appeared to show a rifle and a loaded magazine.
This content was swiftly removed and Herrera was apprehended by federal agents later that Thursday. If convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of five years for each charge.
Aaron Tap, an FBI special agent in charge of the San Antonio Field Office, expressed the seriousness of such threats, thanking the US Secret Service and local law enforcement for their collaboration in addressing the situation. He emphasized the need for peaceful expression of opinions in line with national values.
Brian J. Gibson, also a special agent with the US Secret Service, acknowledged the joint efforts of local police and the FBI in handling the matter. He noted that inquiries into threats against individuals under Secret Service protection is treated as a top priority, urging cooperation with law enforcement.
Meanwhile, Presidents Trump and Melania Trump visited Kerrville on Friday to assess the flood damage and communicated with first responders. Trump reassured local residents that the federal government would be providing “anything Texas needs.”
