Tragic Death of Berkeley Professor in Greece

A professor from the University of California, Berkeley was shot and killed by a masked assailant while visiting family in Athens, Greece. This incident, reported on July 4, claimed the life of 43-year-old Przemysław Jeziorski, a marketing professor at the Haas School of Business.

According to reports from Polish media, Jeziorski was heading to pick up a child from his ex-wife at the time of the shooting. His trip was partly to attend a court hearing concerning their custody arrangements.

Jennifer Chatman, the dean of the Haas School, expressed deep sorrow over the sudden loss, stating, “We are saddened by the tragic death of Professor Jeziorski. Our immediate concern is supporting our community during this challenging time as authorities investigate the events.” She added, “My heart goes out to Przemek’s family and loved ones. We miss him.”

Professor Zsolt Katona praised Jeziorski’s work in marketing and economics, highlighting his exceptional research contributions in various fields, including advertising and mobile finance.

Jeziorski’s biography on the Berkeley website noted his extensive experience, which established him as a leading expert in quantitative marketing and applied microeconomics. Prior to his role at Berkeley, he also taught at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Arizona.

His brother, Ukas Zeziorsky, shared on a crowdfunding platform that Jeziorski was a victim of a heinous act and stressed the importance of justice. He mentioned their heartbreaking situation, along with their ongoing efforts to raise funds for legal expenses and the repatriation of Przemysław’s remains to Poland.

Przemysław was also a devoted father to two young children, and his loss is felt deeply by both his family and colleagues at Haas.
