Border official supports masked ICE agents following a 700% rise in assaults

Trump’s Border Chief Defends ICE Agents Wearing Masks

Tom Homan, who was a key figure in the Trump administration’s border policies, expressed his belief that it’s completely justifiable for immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) agents to wear masks when apprehending individuals illegally in the U.S. This statement came during a recent podcast interview.

Speaking with Politico’s “Conversation” podcast, Homan explained that the decision to mask was in response to increased attacks on ICE. He noted that there has been a remarkable 700% rise in these assaults, emphasizing that both agents and their families face risks due to doxing incidents.

In a related note, Homan mentioned the ongoing violence against ICE agents, stating, “We’ve never seen anything like this at this scale.” He highlighted that the threats posed are not limited to agents but extend to their loved ones as well.

During the interview, host Dasha Burns pointed out that while some Americans criticize the footage of masked ICE agents, others fear that this could inspire copycat actions. Homan acknowledged the discontent but added, “What people must understand is that ICE agents are uniquely targeted, and that’s why they take such precautions.” He reiterated that the scale of attacks is unparalleled among law enforcement agencies.

Over the Fourth of July weekend, there was a serious incident involving an attack on a detention center in Alvarado, Texas, resulting in charges of attempted murder against a suspect who shot at a police officer.

As law enforcement continues to grapple with violence, Homan argued that ICE agents’ use of masks provides a necessary layer of protection. He contrasted this practice with other police agencies, which, according to him, haven’t faced similar threats or attacks.

Despite Burns’ attempts to steer the conversation, Homan held firm to his perspective. He pointedly questioned whether critics of masked ICE agents had voiced any concerns about other masked protesters, highlighting a perceived inconsistency in public reactions.

During his discussion, Homan underscored the unprecedented nature of the threats ICE faces, reinforcing the importance of protective measures for agents in the field.
