A mother and daughter from Queens have found themselves at the center of a storm after a violent incident in a parking lot garnered widespread attention online. They are reportedly facing threats, including death threats, since the video of the altercation went viral.
The mother, Andreea Dumitre, expressed her skepticism about any apologies from the other party involved, stating, “I don’t think it’s genuine.” She hopes the individuals involved will truly reflect on their behavior rather than just react to the backlash from the video.
The altercation took place on July 7 in Ridgewood. It began when a student, Jada McPherson, attempted to park in a space that Dumitre had reserved for a friend. This led to a heated confrontation involving Dumitre, her daughter Sabrina Starman, and another unidentified person.
Following the altercation, which showed Dumitre and Starman attacking McPherson, they have received a barrage of insults and threats. In the video, Dumitre can be heard hurling slurs while McPherson responds in kind.
One particularly alarming message sent to the family read, “You’ll see me soon. Mark my words, I’m going to kill you all.” This has left Dumitre and her daughter feeling unsafe.
Dumitre recounted the trauma, noting that the threats have severely impacted her life. “I can’t sleep, I can’t eat,” she said, mentioning she is concerned for her young child and elderly mother as well.
The incident escalated outside an address on Putnam Avenue, where tensions flared when McPherson attempted to claim the parking space. Starman claimed McPherson had been taunting them for nearly half an hour before the situation exploded.
Despite being charged with assault and harassment, Dumitre and Starman have expressed remorse about the event. Their lawyer was present when they conveyed their apologies.
McPherson, however, feels that the threats against Dumitre and Starman are excessive but also does not accept their apology. “I don’t think there’s any justification for death threats,” she said, describing the situation as blown out of proportion.
Dumitre concluded by reflecting on the lessons learned from this experience, stating, “I won’t let this happen again. It’s just not worth it.”
