Rand Paul Revives Criminal Referral to Fauci Amid Ongoing Autopen Controversy
Senator Rand Paul announced on Monday that he plans to renew his criminal referral regarding Dr. Anthony Fauci, adding yet another layer to the ongoing story surrounding the Biden White House’s use of an autopen.
“Today, I’m reissuing the crime introduction related to Fauci’s actions,” Paul posted on X. This isn’t the first time he has made such a referral; Fauci, who previously led the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and served as an advisor to President Biden, has already faced similar accusations from Paul in the past.
Interestingly, it’s been reported that Biden’s Chief of Staff approved the autopen’s use on the very last day of a particular period.
Paul’s initial referral came back in 2021 when he accused Congress of misinformation regarding funding related to the COVID-19 virus at the Wuhan Institute. He reiterated his claims again in 2023 amid efforts to uncover the origins of the virus.
“Perjury is a crime,” Paul stated, suggesting that accountability is essential. “The responsible party must face consequences.”
Meanwhile, new developments have emerged, further entangling the narrative involving the use of the autopen. Former President Donald Trump and some Congressional Republicans have accused Biden and his aides of neglecting their responsibilities, supposedly consenting to sign important documents without proper scrutiny.
A report from the New York Times mentioned that Biden’s Chief of Staff, Jeff Sient, had given the go-ahead for an autopen to handle signatures pertaining to high-stakes matters, such as those involving Fauci and former General Mark Milley.
Additionally, a Senate hearing questioning who is truly running the administration is set to begin on Wednesday. In recent months, Biden has signed over 4,000 documents, prompting concerns and criticisms from Trump and other Republicans about whether Biden is entirely aware of his actions.
Trump has called for an investigation by Attorney General Pam Bondi into the alleged misuse of autopen technology, while Republicans in both chambers continue to hold hearings on the matter.
On Monday, Trump characterized the allegations against Biden as potentially one of the “biggest scandals in the last century.” He expressed strong conviction, saying, “I assure you, he didn’t know what he was signing.”
