NATO leader cautions Russia's trade partners following Trump's full tariff warning

NATO Chief Urges Global Leaders to Push for Peace in Ukraine

NATO Executive Director Mark Latte recently warned about the increasing tensions surrounding Russian President Vladimir Putin, particularly regarding President Trump’s impending tariffs. In a statement, he urged world leaders to encourage Putin to seek a resolution in Ukraine.

“If you’re in places like Beijing, Delhi, or Brazil, you should be reaching out to Vladimir,” Latte remarked, pointing out that during a FOX interview, Putin mentioned the word “ceasefire.”

Latte went on to praise Trump’s proposed tariffs, describing them as “smartly designed.” He emphasized that while these measures will undeniably affect Russia, their implementation is crucial for the broader issue at hand.

During a White House meeting, Trump committed to enforcing “severe tariffs” on nations that continue to engage in trade with Russia unless the Kremlin agrees to halt its ongoing conflict in Ukraine within 50 days.

“They’ll be 100%, that’s it. It’s not easier… I hope we don’t have to do that,” the president stated, expressing a sense of urgency.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutonic clarified that Trump is considering secondary sanctions aimed at Russia’s trading partners, given that the Russian economy is already suffering from direct U.S. sanctions.

Latte noted, “If I were in the Kremlin today, I’d see this as a clear message that President Trump is serious about peace and concerned for the lives lost in Ukraine.”

Additionally, Trump pledged to supply “billions of dollars” worth of weapons to Ukraine. “I think that’s fair,” Latte commented on Trump’s request for NATO to contribute to military supplies.

The NATO Director-General reassured that the alliance is proficient in logistics and aims to deliver an effective package of weapons to Kiev.

Latte emphasized that trading partners of Russia should apply pressure on Putin to agree to a peace deal with Ukraine.

Latte revealed that Trump expressed his intentions to bolster support for Ukraine during a recent call. “Last Thursday, President Trump told me, ‘I want to increase Ukraine’s support concerning weapons,'” he recounted. “This morning, while preparing for our meeting, he reiterated the necessity of advancing sanctions right now.”

In closing, Latte reflected on Trump’s frustrations following his last conversation with Putin, noting that the Russian leader appears uncommitted to negotiations.
