Senator Discusses US-NATO Arms Purchase Deal

During a recent episode of Bloomberg’s “Balance of Balance,” Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) expressed her support for the arms purchase arrangement between the United States and NATO. She highlighted President Zelensky’s openness to financing the acquisition of weapons from the US.

Joe Matthew inquired about Shaheen’s perspective as a prominent member of Congress who has backed the Biden administration’s initiative to provide military support to Ukraine. He questioned whether NATO would conclude its strategy of supplying Kyiv while adhering to the approved weapons package and purchasing American arms.

Shaheen responded, noting, “I think that’s a significant advancement.” She shared her experience from the NATO summit where she met President Zelensky. It seems he was not fully aware that Ukraine would be covering the costs of the arms. Additionally, she mentioned the seizure of Russian assets in Europe and expressed satisfaction that Putin and Russia have recognized President Trump’s shift in rhetoric.
