James Kerrville, a seasoned Democratic strategist, commented on Monday that the recent signing of the “Big Beautifulville” by President Trump should serve as a rallying point for Democrats, labeling the ongoing controversy surrounding financier Jeffrey Epstein a “distraction.”
“I think the Democrats really have a unique opportunity with this ‘Big and Beautiful Bill.’ People are not fond of it,” Kerrville shared during a segment on CNN’s “AC360,” alongside former Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel. “This could energize the base, but they need to ensure people actually make it to the polls.”
“Rahm has a point. Epstein does divert attention, but ultimately, many voters will express their frustration and discontent with this legislation,” he remarked to host Anderson Cooper. “This is arguably the least favored law ever enacted by Congress. Just think about how unpopular it is.”
Kerrville criticized the GOP’s substantial spending and tax legislation that is currently progressing through Congress. He argued that passing this measure could be seen as a “massive extinction event,” potentially paving the way for Democrats to reclaim the House in the upcoming 2026 elections.
“I really like this strategy with the United Front. Every Democrat opposed this bill. No matter their political beliefs or backgrounds… we have a unified issue to campaign on until 2026,” he added.
The “Big Beautiful Bill,” signed by Trump on July 4th, focuses on his domestic agenda, which includes funding to hire additional border patrol agents and completing the border wall. It also extends Trump’s 2017 tax cuts and incorporates significant cuts to Medicaid and various food assistance programs.
In related news, House Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) recently suggested that the Trump administration should disclose all documents pertaining to the Epstein case. Some Democrats have even pushed for a resolution to compel the release of these documents.
“The American public deserves to know the facts,” Jeffries told reporters on Monday. “What’s going on with the Trump administration and the Department of Justice?”
Frustrations have arisen within the MAGA base following a DOJ and FBI memo released earlier this month, which indicated that there was no evidence of a “client list” associated with Epstein, who died by suicide in 2019.
Furthermore, in February, it was noted that the supposed “client list” was still on a desk awaiting review.
In defense of the Attorney General, Trump remarked on Saturday that Bondy was performing “excellently,” urging not to waste attention on Epstein, who he claimed was of little concern to voters.
