Pickup truck drives over teenager's legs during beach assessment in Oak Island

Pickup Truck Accident Involving Teen on Oak Island Beach

A pickup truck driver reportedly ran over the legs of a 15-year-old girl who was lying on a beach in Oak Island, North Carolina. Public safety officials were called to the scene just after 2 PM on Monday.

Upon their arrival, authorities found the girl and assessed her for what was described as a “potential non-life-threatening injury” caused by the vehicle. Officials then transported her to a local hospital as a precaution.

The pickup involved, a 2020 GMC truck, is owned by Ti Coastal Services, a private contractor conducting beach research for engineering firms Moffatt & Nichol. This work is part of the preparation for the 2025/26 Beach Nutrition Project, which began on July 7 and is expected to last two weeks.

In a related note, there have been two fatalities from a separate beach incident near Hilton Head, which has resulted in multiple injuries. The project on Oak Island aims to survey both land and ocean areas, scheduled to run from June 30 to July 7.

Authorities have dispelled rumors circulating on social media that falsely accuse the town’s beach safety unit of being responsible for the incident. The city emphasized that such misinformation can undermine trust in first responders. Residents are encouraged to verify sources before spreading information.
