Investigation into Biden’s Use of Autopen
The White House is currently looking into former President Joe Biden’s use of autopens. Senior officials have informed that the National Archives and Records Agency (NARA) has taken possession of tens of thousands of documents related to this matter. The investigation is being led by the White House legal team in coordination with the Department of Justice.
This inquiry particularly examines communications and documents involving Biden’s use of autopen, a machine that replicates a person’s signature. An official stated that, while they aren’t quite ready to share details, NARA has already handed over over 27,000 records to the White House.
Carolyn Leavit, chief news officer, expressed her views, saying, “Joe Biden was the worst, most incompetent, oldest president in our country’s history.” She pointed out that reports suggest Biden transferred presidential power to an autopen, managed by unselected staff making decisions that could harm the country.
In addition, there’s an ongoing commitment from the Trump administration to seek answers concerning how matters were handled within Biden’s White House. Officials mentioned that more than 1 million documents will be reviewed to understand this further, emphasizing the importance of transparency and the public’s right to know.
Access to records from past administrations is standard for current presidents, and the review includes documents pertaining to Biden’s presidency and his use of the autopen over several years. They aim to ensure policies are in place safeguarding the autopen’s use.
There’s a focus here on the legality; often, autopens are deemed acceptable only when the president requests such a method for signing. “This has been a priority for the administration from the start,” said one source, highlighting the significance of the president’s signature.
The investigation arose partly due to concerns about whether the autopen was used appropriately or, perhaps, whether Biden delegated decision-making power too readily to staff or the machine itself. Biden has previously defended his use of the autopen, claiming that he made all the necessary decisions during his tenure.
However, reports suggest that Biden might not have personally approved every individual case in amnesty decisions, and various congressional committees, including the House Oversight Committee, are also looking into the autopen’s usage and Biden’s health while in office.
On a somewhat related note, while the Trump administration is conducting its investigation, officials clearly state that these efforts are distinct from those of Congress. The Trump administration affirms that they have not employed an autopen for any official actions.
Sounding off on the subject, Trump instructed a review by the Justice Department to look into the implications of Biden’s mental state as they relate to the autopen’s use.
