Fatal Shooting of Music Director and Husband
A man has been taken into custody following the tragic shooting death of “American Idol” music director Robin Kay and her husband, Thomas Deluca.
The couple, aged 70, were found deceased in their San Fernando Valley home on Monday. They had both been involved with “American Idol” since 2009, contributing to the show’s music landscape.
The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Raymond Boudarian from Encino, has been linked to the case, although the specifics regarding his arrest have not been disclosed to the media, and no mugshot has been released. Authorities are treating the incident as random, but the connection between Boudarian and the couple remains unclear.
Thomas Deluca was a seasoned singer-songwriter, having a long career in the music industry. He released his solo rock album “To the Wire” in 2022 and had written for various artists, including Meredith Brooks and Kid Rock.
“We are devastated to hear about the passing of Robin and her beloved husband Tom,” a representative for “American Idol” stated. “Robin has been the cornerstone of the Idol family since 2009, and she was truly loved and respected by everyone who knew her. She will remain in our hearts forever, and we extend our deepest sympathy to her family and friends during this tough time.”
Authorities believe the shooting took place Thursday, possibly during a home robbery. Reports suggest that the suspects entered through an unlocked door just as the couple returned home.
Dispatch records indicate that the LAPD responded to a prowler report on Thursday afternoon. Officers arrived around 5 PM but found no signs of a break-in or intruders.
It’s puzzling that the incident wasn’t discovered until Monday. Police conducted a welfare check at 2:30 PM on Monday after receiving concerns about the couple. They noticed a blood trail leading to the property and entered through a glass door. Inside, they found Deluca in the bathroom and Kay concealed in the pantry.
