Conservatives are already opposing a continuing resolution through the end of fiscal year 2024 against an unannounced plan to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its border patrol operations at current levels.
Republican leaders are considering filing a continuing resolution (CR) for the agency that would not include spending cuts or new policy proposals, multiple sources told the Daily Caller News Foundation on Friday. Such a plan has already drawn criticism from conservatives in both chambers, including Republican Sens. Andrew Clyde of Georgia and Chip Roy of Texas, and Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah.
“A spending package that continues to fund DHS without important policy provisions to secure our borders and protect the American people is a complete failure,” Clyde told the Daily Caller News Foundation in a statement. “Congress must use the power of its wallet to stop President Biden’s deliberate illegal invasion from further harming our country and terrorizing our communities.”
Roy shared Clyde’s sentiments on social media Friday. post. (Related: Congress passes huge spending bill full of eyeballs)
“why, [House GOP] Radical Progressive Democrats are foisting this fear on the American people while funding DHS with a “continuing resolution” with no policy reform and pushing through the second half of a giant omnibus government funding bill that will shatter the cap next week. Or? ” Roy wrote.

After Congress partially completed the spending process last week, it faces a new March 22 deadline to fund the remaining federal agencies, including DHS.
“If this is a very short-term DHS continuing resolution, it could help it gain leverage in border security,” Lee said. I have written But if it is a CR to fund DHS at current levels through the end of FY 2024, the DHS CR would cement Biden’s border security dire situation. Secure borders. Or shut it down. ”
A person familiar with the DHS plan under consideration insisted that President Joe Biden would be given the tools he needs to “secure the border” if he so desires.
“During negotiations, Democrats advocated weakening border enforcement and rejected common sense proposals to make the border more secure. This is not a start for Republicans,” sources told DCNF. “CR isn’t ideal, but it’s much better than reinforcing President Biden’s disastrous border policies. At the very least, CR provides what is needed to secure the border if the president changes policy.” If he fails to do so, the border crisis will continue to be his choice.”
Congress has already passed four continuing resolutions to provide temporary funding to government agencies since the fiscal year began Sept. 30. signed The latest bill introduced by lawmakers on March 9 to avert a government shutdown included six spending bills.
first “minibus” included spending bills for commerce, justice, and science. Energy and water development. Department of Home Affairs and Environment; Military Construction and Veterans Affairs. Agriculture; Transportation and Housing and Urban Development.
