Travis Hunter is not just a remarkable football player.
While on a flight from Denver, Sandy Hawkins Combs found herself seated next to Hunter. However, it wasn’t until later that she truly grasped what made Hunter special.
“I had the most amazing flight from Denver. I met the best young man sitting next to me,” Combs shared on Facebook. “He offered to help with my bag and even assisted with my tray. He was always so polite, saying ‘Yes Ma’am’ or ‘No’. Anyone would be proud to have him as a son or grandson.”
As other passengers on the United Airlines flight began to congratulate Hunter on his draft to the Jacksonville Jaguars and took pictures with him, Combs grew curious about who he really was.
“I turned around and asked, ‘Who’s sitting next to me?’ Then I saw his Jaguar pants and smiled, asking, ‘Are you an athlete?'”
“He smiled and said, ‘I’m Travis. Yes, I was drafted by the Jags.’ I told my sons I wanted his jersey,” she continued.
Even those who were initially unaware quickly became fans, as Hunter made a positive impression with his new NFL team and its supporters.
The Jaguars clearly appreciated what they saw in the former Colorado Buffalo during his college career.
With encounters like this occurring in public spaces, the selection of the recent Heisman Trophy winner appears to be a great choice for Jacksonville.
Hunter has evidently gained new supporters, and the team has earned future fans.
“He’s incredibly humble and grounded. You wouldn’t guess he was a professional athlete,” Combs expressed. “Jacksonville Jaguars, you made a good choice! I’m going to buy a ticket.”
