The New Simpsons Movie Announcement

It’s hard to believe, but next summer will mark the 20th anniversary of “The Simpsons Movie.” I remember the excitement of watching it in a theater in Sheridan, Wyoming, during a family trip to Yellowstone. I simply couldn’t wait until I got home to see it.

Fast forward two decades, and we have a sneak peek at the sequel, titled “The New Simpsons Movie.”

During the Disney D23 convention, a “Simpsons” panel revealed some insights about the show, featuring creator Matt Groening and others as they answered questions from fans and dropped hints about the upcoming season. They also shared a teaser for the new film.

This teaser isn’t fully polished yet. In fact, it feels a bit rough around the edges, but it’s intriguing—especially since it centers on baseball. From what we can gather, Homer attempts to set a baseball record during a Springfield Isotopes game, although it’s surprising that this hasn’t come up in the show’s lengthy run of over 800 episodes.

The glimpses we got were quite amusing. I particularly enjoyed the scene with the ballpark organist trying to catch a ball, and the classic moment featuring Jack Brunswick, a character known among true fans, who unfortunately gets shoved into a urinal.

The first film was packed with elaborate, “Looney Tunes”-style sequences filled with humor and cameos. It seems like the sequel will carry on that tradition, which is great to see.

Scheduled for release in theaters on September 3, 2027, “The New Simpsons Movie” is likely to bring a wave of marketing. Honestly, I’m bracing myself for the promotional blitz, no matter how many times I may have to hit up Burger King to collect the toys, just like back in 2007. It’ll be worth it.
