Aaron Glenn is keeping the Jets' starting quarterback under wraps as the game approaches.

The Jets’ ongoing quarterback situation may not be resolved publicly before the weekend.

Head coach Aaron Glenn didn’t name a starter between Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor for the third consecutive time this Friday. Instead, he chose to keep things under wraps, citing a competitive edge leading into Sunday’s 7-0 match against the Bengals.

Throughout the press conference, Glenn faced numerous questions about the situation, from Taylor’s readiness to start to its potential impact on the Jets’ game preparations. He handled every inquiry with apparent ease.

“That’s exactly why I’m saying that, because I don’t want to give an answer,” Glenn remarked after fielding several queries about the quarterbacks. “I’m not sure what else I can say. This is how it’s going to be.”

Taylor has been limited in practice due to a knee injury and will again be restricted on Friday, with his status officially listed as questionable.

When asked if the team was informed of the decision, Glenn stated he preferred to keep it between himself and the players. In response to whether the starters received regular practice reps, he maintained it was a matter between him and the team.

Regarding the influence on their preparation, Glenn insisted, “We had a great week of practice.” He emphasized that they intend to keep this information private.

This was Glenn’s final media session before the game, which means unless something leaks, the players may not be aware of the starting quarterback until pregame warm-ups.

After Fields was pulled at halftime in Sunday’s game against the Panthers, owner Woody Johnson criticized the quarterback’s performance during a reporter session, commenting, “It’s tough to win with a quarterback rating like ours.”

“If we can complete the passes, we’ll be good,” Johnson said. “Convincing them they can do something is crucial; otherwise, it’s tough to set up a winning strategy. If you struggle with the passing game, running becomes challenging, too. It’s just basic football.”

Glenn will be without cornerback Sauce Gardner due to a concussion and wide receiver Garrett Wilson because of a knee issue for Sunday’s game. Azareh Thomas is expected to start in place of Gardner.
