Even with a fractured bone, Aaron Rodgers is determined to maintain his dominance over the Chicago Bears.
The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback had further tests this week that confirmed a break in his non-throwing wrist, although, as head coach Mike Tomlin noted on Tuesday, no surgery is necessary.
“It’s really just about providing support and ensuring his comfort and safety. That’s how functional he is at the moment,” Tomlin shared with reporters.
Rodgers, who spent 18 years with the rival Packers, is pushing to play in Sunday’s game against the Bears, but his participation remains uncertain, awaiting medical evaluation, according to NFL Insider Tom Pelissero.
Tomlin indicated that Friday will be a crucial day for Rodgers’ potential return to the field in Chicago.
“We’ll see how this week unfolds and address it day by day,” Tomlin said.
Rodgers exited the Steelers’ 34-12 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday with a wrist issue in the second quarter.
On Monday, Tomlin emphasized that the four-time MVP is eager to get back into the game.
Mason Rudolph stepped in for Rodgers to secure the win and will start on Sunday if Rodgers isn’t cleared to play.
In his first 10 games with Pittsburgh, the 21-year veteran has thrown for 1,969 yards, with 19 touchdowns and nine interceptions, marking a notable comeback after two challenging years with the Jets.
Throughout his impressive career, Rodgers has typically excelled against the Bears, boasting a record of 24-5 along with 64 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions during his time with the Green Bay Packers.
In 2021, he famously declared “I’m yours!” to Bears fans after scoring a rushing touchdown.
At 41, Rodgers may be seeking one last opportunity to face the Bears, making it an exciting conclusion to his storied career.
Both the Steelers (6-4) and Bears (7-3) lead their divisions, with Chicago rallying to win seven of their last eight games after a rough start of 0-2.
