Eric Trump has joined other Republican lawmakers in calling for the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle after security lapses at a rally in Pennsylvania last weekend allowed a would-be assassin to open fire on former President Trump, killing one person and wounding others.
“[She] The prime minister should resign in complete disgrace,” he told Fox News reporter Maria Bartiromo on Sunday.
“The fact that she can lie to the American people, block subpoenas as Mr. Mayorkas is trying to do now, block freedom of information requests, and then tell the American people that the Secret Service couldn’t get on the roof — that’s the excuse she’s going to use? It’s an absolute disgrace,” he continued.

“The fact that the Biden administration is allowing a former president, and likely a future president, to have a bullet shot in their ear and not be held accountable… and [Cheatle] The fact that she is still in her job shows how disgracefully incompetent this administration is. She should be removed from her job. Someone competent should be put in her position.”
Trump also praised the Secret Service agents who appeared on stage with his father that day for their efforts in keeping him safe, calling them “wonderful people” and noting that some of them are personal friends.

On July 13, 20-year-old gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on Trump while he was onstage at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, striking Trump in the ear, seriously injuring a spectator, and killing firefighter Corey Comperatore.
Since then, security failures before and during the event have drawn intense scrutiny from Republican lawmakers, including Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), James Lankford (R-Okla.) and Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), who confronted Cheatle at the 2024 Republican National Convention last week and demanded an explanation.
