Virginia Father Arrested for Murdering Infant Daughter
A father from Virginia, Misael López Gomez, has been charged with the murder of his three-month-old daughter. Reportedly, he is an undocumented immigrant from Guatemala who entered the U.S. during the Biden administration, as stated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
According to local news sources, Gómez, 28, was taken into custody on Friday. Fairfax County police found the infant unresponsive, and despite attempts at CPR, she was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The coroner later determined that her death was caused by blunt force trauma.
The Virginia Department of Justice confirms that Gómez faces charges of second-degree murder and child abuse, both serious felonies. Although his immigration status isn’t explicitly listed, DHS confirmed he is an illegal immigrant who crossed the New Mexico border illegally in July of this year.
In a separate case, allegations have emerged involving an undocumented individual accused of molesting a minor at a Virginia high school.
ICE has reportedly asked Fairfax County law enforcement to detain Gómez. This incident is part of a troubling trend of crimes committed by undocumented immigrants in Fairfax County, which is heavily Democratic and the most populated county in Virginia.
Furthermore, DHS is urging newly elected Democratic Governor Abigail Spanberger to ensure that criminal illegal immigrants are subject to ICE detainers.
Despite her moderate reputation in last year’s election campaign, Spanberger has faced scrutiny for progressive policies she has installed since taking office. This includes an executive order that limits cooperation between state law enforcement and federal immigration authorities.
Additionally, ICE has requested the detention of another undocumented Guatemalan, Anibal Armando Chavarria Muy, who was recently arrested in Fairfax County on suspicion of second-degree murder related to a machete attack.
Furthermore, ICE has filed motions to detain Israel Flores Ortiz, an 18-year-old accused of sexually assaulting numerous female students at a local high school.
Attempts to contact officials from Spanberger’s office and Fairfax County for comments have been made.
