Overall theme over 33 pages memo is a “disparity” in student discipline, and the document also includes instructions on anti-racism, equity, and “whiteness.”
A passage on page 25 of this memo reads: Educational practices have long been rooted in whiteness and come from a white lens. Educators need to reflect on which elements of whiteness they can recognize, participate in, and work to dismantle in their education. ”
The same page suggests staff ask themselves: “What are the worldviews and practices in white-centered education? [sic] Have you internalized the belief? What are the concrete steps we can take to de-center whiteness in our educational practices?”
The section on “Equity” on page 7 makes sure to distinguish between “equality” and “equity,” with the former meaning “an even distribution of district resources, supports, and opportunities,” and the latter meaning “an even distribution of district resources, supports, and opportunities.” Note that , means “opportunity allocation”.
