Exclusive: Lorenzo Lamas Critiques Governor Newsom’s Leadership
Hollywood action star Lorenzo Lamas expressed his discomfort at the idea of California’s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom potentially becoming President. “President Newsom? God forbid,” he stated during a recent conversation with Fox News Digital.
Lamas pointedly questioned whether voters across the country would want to elect someone whose record in California he considers a failure. He’s quite passionate, actually, about the state’s current condition under Newsom, saying it has had a “devastating” effect. The actor, known for his roles in the ‘80s and ‘90s, has shown political interest, endorsing Sheriff Chad Bianco as the Republican candidate for governor. Lamas suggests that California might be primed to elect its first Republican governor since Arnold Schwarzenegger left the office in 2011.
“I love California. It’s my home,” Lamas said, acknowledging that many friends have left due to the state’s heavy tax burden and political climate. However, he remains committed to staying and fighting for the rights of Californians, hence his support for Bianco.
As Newsom’s governorship approaches its end due to term limits, speculation grows about his intention to run for the presidency in 2028. Lately, he hinted that he wouldn’t be truthful if he said he wasn’t thinking about a run.
Newsom is already a key figure in the Democratic Party and has been a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump, positioning himself as a likely contender for the 2024 presidential race.
Lamas cautioned against the consequences of a potential Newsom presidency. He lamented, “The impact it will have on California is… [Newsom’s] administration is nothing short of devastating.” He cited the rising homeless populations in cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco, alongside a lack of preparedness for natural disasters as indicators of what he describes as severe mismanagement.
“There’s ample funding meant for programs aimed at aiding these individuals, yet no tangible changes,” he observed. “Where is that money going? There’s little accountability for the millions spent on welfare programs that aren’t helping those in need.” Lamas criticized Newsom for failing to maintain accountability regarding these funds.
On the subject of immigration, Lamas expressed his concerns about sanctuary cities contributing to higher crime rates. “I believe there are laws that everyone should respect. Without them, it’s chaos,” he remarked.
In response to Lamas’ critiques, a spokesperson from Newsom’s office simply dismissed his remarks with one word: “Who?”
Newsom’s tenure in office will conclude in January 2027. If Bianco secures the Republican nomination, he’s set to face a challenging battle against traditional Democratic strongholds, which include figures like Representatives Eric Swalwell and Katie Porter.
