Trump to Attend NBA Finals Game at Madison Square Garden
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has expressed his enthusiasm about President Donald Trump’s attendance at Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden.
During a press conference at the White House, Trump confirmed that the Knicks will be there for their first NBA Finals home game at MSG since 1999.
The NBA committee expressed that they were happy to welcome Trump and acknowledged his long-standing support as a Knicks fan.
“Donald Trump was a big Knicks fan even before he ran for office,” Silver noted. “I attended many Knicks games with him back in the day. He was also present for many of the drafts held at Madison Square Garden,” he added.
Silver views the president’s visit as a chance to “highlight what we have in common, not our differences.” He mentioned, “We’re seeing that in New York. I think President Trump is very much a New Yorker, and it brings me joy that another New Yorker wants to join in the excitement of this Knicks team.”
According to reports, Trump’s attendance will mark the fifth major sporting event in the New York area since he began his second term in 2025.
This event will be notably significant, as it will be the first instance during Silver’s time as commissioner that a sitting president will attend the NBA Finals.
Security measures will be heightened at Madison Square Garden due to the president’s attendance. However, it’s uncertain how this will influence the usual celebratory atmosphere outside the arena following victories.
In a recent speech, Trump praised the Knicks and complimented the team’s defense against Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama. “How do you guard these guys? He’s 7-foot-5 and has a great shot, right? But they figured it out. They’re really great,” he said.
New York Mayor Zoran Mamdani is also set to attend Game 3 but mentioned he would be “in a completely different area of the stadium.”
