White House press secretary Caroline Levitt stated on Sunday that President Trump intends to maintain strict measures against illegal immigration, emphasizing his support for ICE and the Border Patrol amidst increasing political scrutiny.
Levitt mentioned during an appearance on “Sunday Morning Futures” that “President Trump will never waver from his promise to the nearly 80 million Americans who voted for him to deport criminal illegal aliens who came here to violate our laws and then commit violent crimes against American citizens.” She highlighted the need for respect towards ICE and Border Patrol agents, urging Democrats to stop demonizing these organizations.
She criticized the alarming rhetoric that compares federal agents to the Nazi Gestapo, stating that such language is contributing to rising violence and intimidation against law enforcement personnel. “The Trump administration is always going to be on the side of law and order,” Levitt added. She expressed the administration’s aim to eliminate illegal aliens engaged in severe crimes to safeguard the country, noting that the president has made significant progress in this area.
Levitt’s remarks come in the context of rising tensions in Minneapolis, where recent federal immigration enforcement actions have drawn scrutiny following the fatalities of two civilians in incidents involving federal agents. One of these incidents involved the shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good by ICE agents and the other concerned Border Patrol agents shooting a Veterans Affairs ICU nurse, Alex Preti.
These events have prompted Democratic lawmakers to advocate for changes to federal immigration practices, including calls for the dismissal of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, a request that the Trump administration has dismissed.
