African weather system generating rumors of UFOs and 80-foot waves, blamed on software ‘error’

Last week, a weather-modeling software “error” showed an anomaly the size of Texas was making its way up the African coastline, producing waves more than 80 feet high. Conspiracy theorists showed up in full force.

Ventusky is an application that displays weather and meteorological data to allow people to monitor their movements wherever they are in the world.

According to the company’s website, the app is available to anyone around the world and features features such as illustrating the movement of particles and displaying wind data.

Last week, the application showed that the wave mass reached more than 80 feet in height, spread over a distance wider than Texas, and rose from Antarctica toward the coast of Africa over about 24 hours before disappearing.

A video of the weather pattern sparked rumors, with people claiming it was something from a giant underwater sea creature to an underwater spacecraft.

A video posted by X user @528vibes has received more than 748,000 views and describes it as “anomaly moving underwater – the size of Texas.”

According to WorldAtlas.com, Texas is approximately 801 miles long, 1,273 miles wide from its widest point, and covers approximately 268,600 square miles.

“Some of the footage you’re about to see in this video is strange, but it’s all real,” he posted. “These are real-life encounters with ‘something’ that the viewer saw, recorded, and could not identify.”

The video had been viewed 80,000 times by Sunday afternoon, with followers debating what the giant black dot on the map was.

“Everyone knows Godzilla comes from the sea,” one user wrote.

Another said, “Okay, who released the Kraken?”

Other believers said the mysterious substance could be HP Lovecraft’s Cthulhu, or even linked the mass to the giant sea creatures awakened by the April 8 solar eclipse.

However, some suggested there may have been some sort of software glitch, as the blobs on the map moved along major shipping routes and sailors had not reported large waves in the area.

Ventusky saw the buzz the map had generated and immediately took action on the situation, debunking the conspiracy floating in the air.

“Despite numerous reports of UFOs and Atlanteans jumping out of the ocean, yesterday’s images of giant waves near Africa were the result of a model error,” the company wrote. “Fortunately, our provider, the German Meteorological Institute @DWD_Presse, has already resolved the issue and the forecast is good.”

The company added that the model ingests large amounts of data from ships and buoys in the ocean, which can cause problems with such large databases.

Still, the company wrote that it may take time to determine the cause of last week’s error.

However, despite the company’s attempts to defuse the situation, the detectives continued, forcing Ventusky to try to prove their case once again.

“A significant number of people do not believe that the giant wave off the coast of Africa was just a mistake and prefer the UFO theory,” Bentusky wrote. “What can we do as a visualization platform? Add sources. So, being a reliable source, he has incorporated another wave model from Météo-France.”

Ventusky CEO and founder David Prantl did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s inquiries for this story.
