About a week ago, AI-generated pornographic images of Taylor Swift took the internet by storm with surprising speed.
The fake photos were so widespread that one image was published for just “about 17 hours” and “was seen on X 47 million times before it was taken down,” Hillary Kennedy told Pat Gray.
After the images were eventually discovered, X temporarily blocked searches related to Taylor Swift to prevent further circulation of explicit content.
The website responsible for publishing the image “has done this to many celebrities in the past,” Hilary said.
These deepfakes are “so incredibly convincing” that people in Washington are finally trying to do something about it. [it]The policy was made possible by a policy called the Defiance Act, “introduced by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin, Sen. Lindsey Graham, Sen. Josh Hawley, and Sen. Amy Klobuchar.”
“Sexually explicit deepfake content is often used to exploit and harass women, especially public figures, politicians, and celebrities,” said Senator Durbin. The harm to victims from the distribution of blatant deepfakes is very real. Victims may lose their jobs and suffer from ongoing depression and anxiety. By introducing this law, we will restore power to victims, crack down on the distribution of deepfake images, and hold those responsible for the images accountable.”
The anti-defense statute “allows people who are victims of this incident to bring a civil lawsuit against the person who caused this incident.” [or] They are in possession for the purpose of distribution,” Hilary said.
In addition, people who possessed deepfake images “knowingly that the victim did not consent” could also be “held liable.”
But Pat feels there are some holes in this new anti-objection law.
“For example, if we got a deepfake of Taylor Swift, we don’t know if she said okay,” he says.
