Secret Service Official Under Investigation for Alleged Leak
A Secret Service official tasked with the protection of Vice President J.D. Vance has reportedly been placed on leave and is facing an internal investigation. The inquiry is related to claims that this agent leaked sensitive information about the vice president’s travel and business activities to the media.
The agency’s internal affairs team is leading this investigation, which focuses on allegations that the agent breached their professional duties by acting as an unauthorized source for news articles that reveal details about Vance’s movements and the operations of his security team.
This situation arose following a recent report that cited sources expressing growing frustration among agencies regarding the vice president’s personal travel arrangements. The report mentioned specifics, such as a canceled Marine Corps helicopter flight that was supposed to take Vance and his son to a golf lesson.
In response, leadership from the Secret Service and federal law enforcement officials expressed serious concerns about the potential risks of disclosing real-time and future movements of individuals under protection.
Anthony Guglielmi, the communications director for the Secret Service, confirmed the investigation and stated that members of the Vice President’s Protective Division might face administrative and criminal scrutiny for possibly violating operational and information security protocols.
Guglielmi also noted that any actions threatening the safety of protected individuals or damaging the crucial trust between security personnel and the vice president are fundamentally at odds with the agency’s mission and will not be tolerated.
The leak has drawn sharp criticism from the White House, where officials labeled the disclosure of the vice president’s family’s travel plans as a serious breach of protocol and security standards. Security professionals and former investigators pointed out that revealing travel schedules, especially those of minors, could create significant vulnerabilities and contradict the primary goal of keeping protected individuals out of the public eye.
Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and FBI Director Kash Patel are purportedly involved in coordinating a broader administrative effort to address this breach across federal agencies.
While the Secret Service has not disclosed the names of those involved or what disciplinary actions may follow, officials reiterated that the internal investigation is ongoing to determine whether formal administrative measures or criminal charges will be pursued.
