Protests erupted on Thursday as demonstrators clashed with federal agents during an immigration operation at a marijuana farm in northern Los Angeles. This facility, known as Glasshouse Farm, is state-licensed but has been labeled illegal under federal regulations in Camarillo. Reports indicate that federal authorities were equipped with warrants specifically targeting illegal workers at the site.
Another incident occurred at a different Glasshouse Farm located in Carpinteria, which further heightened tensions.
In a notable altercation, an ICE officer was reportedly assaulted during a raid that led to the apprehension of 70 undocumented immigrants found among carnivorous plants, as per the Department of Homeland Security.
Protesters confronted federal agents using smoke bombs and tear gas, which authorities deployed in response. The scene intensified with military helicopters flying low overhead—likely a tactic intended to flush out hidden individuals.
Oxnard’s mayor, Lewis McArthur, expressed his disapproval on social media, describing the aggressive actions by ICE as insensitive and detrimental to the community. He emphasized his commitment to collaborating with the Attorney General and state officials to find legal means of challenging these operations.
Footage captured by media outlets showed multiple detentions occurring throughout the raid.
Despite objections from Democratic officials, including D-Calif MP Salud Carbajal, about the presence of military-style agents, federal enforcement continued. He lamented, “This is sad. This should not happen in our soil.” Many locals have echoed similar sentiments, asserting that such displays of force are unnecessary and outrageous.
The Ventura County Fire Department reported that four individuals were hospitalized, with three more treated on-site.
This latest raid is part of a broader series of operations across Southern California and has drawn significant criticism from local and state Democratic leaders. Earlier in the week, immigration authorities were also active in MacArthur Park, prompting Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Governor Gavin Newsom to condemn the federal strategies aimed at deporting undocumented migrants.
In light of these actions, Bass has urged the federal government to cease such aggressive tactics in the city. Notably, Los Angeles and eight other municipalities have filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, labeling the methods employed by federal agents as “unconstitutional” and claiming they instill fear rather than serve public safety.
